CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.
PRESENT: Drs. Warth, Blackman, K. Berger and A. Berger.
ABSENT: Drs. Barr and Archer and Jim Beckner.
GUEST: Joyce Redding
INTRODUCTION: Dr. Warth introduced our guest, Joyce Redding, who is interested in working as Executive Director of the Coastal Virginia Medical Foundation. She explained her knowledge about the difference between CVMS and the Foundation.
FINANCE REPORT: Dr. Warth reported the balance in the checking account is $11,380. He paid Prime $2,500 for CME certification. He added corporate partner checks for $1,000 ($500 each for MSVIA and Edward Jones). He has not received any dues lately.
MEMBERSHIP MEETING: The next membership meeting will be held on Thursday, 9/19/24, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. in the Westin Residences Penthouse. The event will be mostly social but will include a presentation by Mark Warden, an expert on finance. There will be no raffle. Dr. Blackman will man the check-in booth at the concierge desk in the lobby. He will obtain names and email addresses of attendees. Dues notices will be sent out after the 9/19/24 meeting.
CME CONFERENCE: The conference will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Princess Anne Country Club. There will be 4 speakers and a CVMS Board panel discussion at the end for 30 minutes. There will be tables for vendors and MSVIA has agreed to be a sponsor. All health professions are invited. The total cost of the conference will be $6,000 which includes speaker honorariums CME certification cost and room and refreshments at the venue. Catchy topics for the presentations would be helpful to attract attendees. Dr. K. Berger will not be able to speak as planned but is reaching out to the former MSV President to see if he can speak instead.
ADVOCACY REPORT: Dr. K. Berger reported on the Task Force meetings he has been attending. All COPN information goes through this Committee. There are 2 more meetings this year. So far, they have discussed CT scans and imaging. They are trying to make healthcare more affordable and available regarding these two issues. Unfortunately, these were reversed by hospital attorneys and all met with resistance. The next meeting is in October. Dr. Berger is also on Sentara’s Patient Care Committee.
MSV ANNUAL MEETING: The meeting will be held in Norfolk October 17-20, 2024. The caucus for delegates will be held on October 15, 2024. Dr. Warth will not be able to attend the meeting due to a scheduling conflict. Dr. K. Berger may be available for one day to present the 3 proposals CVMS is sponsoring.
CVM FOUNDATION: Dr. Warth explained the goals of the CVM Foundation. Dr. K. Berger suggested that a dedicated meeting be set up to further explore foundations and what they do. We need pamphlets or brochures explaining projects that would be included. We also need a standalone website. A meeting will be set up by Dr. Warth. Lynn Siegel, CEO of Hope House, may be invited to come to the next Board meeting to give insight on foundations. Dr. Warth will send out information regarding what we have on the Foundation so far.
KREUGER ANNUAL MEETING, OCTOBER 8, 2024: CVMS will present Susan Herring with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions and advice in setting up CVMS.
NEWSLETTER ARTICLES: Articles are needed for the newsletter.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Warth

Things You Need to Know
The Roman Fasces was a symbol of strength and power occurring as a result of many binding together. It was made of multiple elm or birchwood rods about 5 feet long tied together and sometimes including an axe. It was carried by attendants to soldiers or powerful figures in ancient Rome. For us, it symbolizes that we are stronger and more powerful if we bind together in supporting our goals.
